François López-Ferrer

François López-Ferrer is one of the most promising young conductors on the symphonic stage today. The U.S.-Spanish artist is currently Associated Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Chile.

His most recent performances include the participation with Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Chile in the 10 concerts at the Santiago de Chile Summer Festival, the Viña del Mar tour and the 48th edition of the Semanas Musicales Festival in Frutillar, with a great acceptance by audience and critics. It is also remarkable his debut in Brazil with the Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre. Future engagements include concerts with the Berner Symphonieorchester and Musikkollegium Winthertur.

Numerous orchestras have been led by López-Ferrer: Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Gstaad Festival Orchestra, Hamburger Symphoniker, Berner Symphonieorchester, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Chile, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Orquestra Sinfónica de Porto Alegre, Orchester der Musikalische Komödie Leipzig, Meininger Hofkapelle, Estonian National Youth Orchestra, Karlsbader Symphonieorchester, Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra, Berliner Camerata, Pärnu City Orchestra, Guildhall School of Music Symphony Orchestra, Estonian National Youth Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta de Córdoba, Orchestre de la Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, VU-Orchestra, Ensemble Vita and Queen City Chamber Opera Orchestra, among others.

López-Ferrer is founder and musical director of the Ensemble Vita, made up of students from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory. With this ensemble, he has led several concerts around the Cincinnati area, performing innovative and varied programs from the Baroque period to the XXI century. He is also co-founder of the Queen City Chamber Opera in Cincinnati. As a fervent performer of Contemporary Music, he has premiered works by the American composer Charles Rudig.

First trained as a composer at the University of Cincinnati, he continued his conducting studies with Leonid Grin in Philadelphia as well as at the Zürcher Hochshule der Künste (Switzerland). He studied a Master's Degree in Orchestral Conducting at the Haute École de Musique in Lausanne, where he studied under the guidance of Professor Aurélien Azan Zielinski. He has also participated in several advanced classes and academies with Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Bernard Haitink and Mario Venzago.

López-Ferrer has been awarded several prizes, among them the Audience Award received at the Operettenworkshop of the Musikalische Komödie Leipzig or his election as Favorite Conductor by the Pärnu City Orchestra.
