Isabelle van Keulen

A violinist and violist of the highest caliber, Isabelle van Keulen has an established reputation as one of the most charismatic musicians of her generation. 

She has been invited to play with the most prestigious orchestras of the world, as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Bayerischer Rundfunk, NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, Tonhalle Zürich, NHK Symphony Tokyo, London Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchester, Hallé Orchestra, Royal Stockholm, Helsinki Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony and Toronto Symphony, among many others. Conductors with whom she work include Sir Neville Marriner, Thomas Dausgaard, Mark Elder, Valery Gergiev, Philippe Herreweghe, Neeme y Paavo Järvi, Andris Nelsons, Sir Roger Norrington, Joseph Swensen, Osmo Vänskä, Hugh Wolff or David Zinman.

During the 2008/2009 season her recording of the Berg Violin Concerto, with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Mario Venzafo will receive its international release. Widely acclaimed for her interpretation of this work, she performed it again with Malmö and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestras. Further highlights of the season include Beethoven’s violin concerto with the Berlin Konzerthausorchester (in Berlin and as part of the Prague Atumn Festival), Dvorak Romance in F minor with Netherlands Radio Philharmonic and Richard Hickox, Berlioz Harold in Italy and the Nielsen Violin Concerto with NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover and both Beethoven Romances with Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Frans Brüggen.

In 2006 she performed as Director- Soloist with the London Mozart Players at the BBC Proms. She continues to work in this capacity with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. She collaborates regularly with the mezzosoprano Christianne Stotijn and the pianist Ronald Brautigam.

Her latest duo recital discs with Ronald Brautigan (on Challenge Classics) had a great critical acclaim. A new duo disc is currently in post- production. Her extensive discography includes composers as diverse as Haydn, Bruch, Vieuxtemps, Saint- Saens, Stravinsky, Schnittke, Dutilleux or Erkki- Sven Tüür.

Isabelle van Keulen plays a Joseph Guarnerius del Gesu violin from 1734.
